Slot theme and symbols
A big part of the influence on the design of Epic Gladiators comes from Ancient Romeβs gladiators. These are the slotβs main characters, and we see one, Kilevius, as heβs fighting a couple of evil spirits at the top of the game area. The underworld is the other side of the gameβs theme. Itβs not a typical story in an online slot machine, but it works. You will find cute graphics and tiny characters battling it out, and itβs just a fun game to play and look at. There are 8 different regular symbols you can use to form those clusters.
A winning cluster will form if there are 5 to 15+ matching symbols grouped up, the connection being made horizontally and/or vertically. There is a cascading reels mechanic there, so winning symbols explode and are replaced with new ones. This can bring more wins and additional cascades. Itβs not a very risky slot to play, based on the low volatility announced, though they also mention it as being on the higher side of low. Gladiatorsβ Enemies
This is one of the things that makes Epic Gladiators such a fun game to play. As you form clusters, and get paid, and then the cascading reels trigger, the gladiator at the top will fight his enemies and drop their HP count. Each cascade equals 1 damage. You need to defeat 1 to 3 enemies to trigger the free spins.

Depending on the number of defeated enemies by Kilevius, the game can trigger with either 10, 15, or 20 free spins (for 1, 2, or 3 enemies defeated). As the feature begins, the game picks a gladiator randomly, which brings you one of three modifiers for this feature:
- Wild Crixus: picks up to 3 symbols randomly, replacing them with wilds. There is one extra symbol replaced for each enemy youβve defeated.
- Maximus: You get an initial 2x multiplier, and it will go up by 1x whenever an enemy is defeated.
- Spintacus: picks 2 random symbols and makes them swap positions with others. This results in either new or bigger wins. If there are additional defeated enemies, you get +1 swaps for each one.

Our rating of the game Epic Gladiators
Itβs not that often that I see a slot machine integrate video game-inspired mechanics in its gameplay, and so Iβd give Epic Gladiators extra points for this choice. You donβt influence those fighting scenes directly; itβs just your wins that trigger them, but itβs a nice touch. While the RTP could be better, I like that it has lower volatility, and the payouts of up to 1,328x are appropriate for that.
